About

Experience

I received my master’s degree in Special Education for Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8) in 2013 from Simmons University.  I taught in the Massachusetts Public Schools for 8 years before I became a full-time reading tutor and consultant.  I became certified in the Orton-Gillingham method in 2017 from the Children’s Dyslexia Center.  I also received my Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist (C-SLDI) certification from the Center for Effective Reading Instruction.  I am passionate about using the skills I have learned to help students “crack the code” and become proficient readers. I have witnessed the incredible difference that reading success can make for a child’s self-confidence and happiness.

Teaching Style

Just as important as having the knowledge that will help your child learn to read, is how to make them comfortable and find the fun in reading.  When children have encountered difficulties in reading it can turn them off to books.  I have a warm and friendly approach that helps children relax and be able to hang in there with the unavoidable frustrations that come with learning a challenging skill.  I incorporate hands-on activities and games to keep your child motivated and interested.  I often hear “Our time is up already?” at the end of my sessions.

I support my students by providing high quality, intensive, multi-sensory instruction while simultaneously developing a sense of mastery.  I customize every lesson to your child’s unique needs.  I take detailed notes and data during each lesson, which allows me to monitor trouble areas.  I keep a careful eye on progress, analyze error patterns, and build on strengths.

Practical Matters

I work Monday-Thursday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. I typically recommend two sessions per week for students to maximize progress. Payment is accepted via credit or debit card, ACH transfer, or Cash App Pay through Square. I have a home office in South Plymouth and in some cases I can travel to schools. I also offer online services.
